Date & Venue: 10 & 11 June 2025 | Artscape, Cape Town
Facilitator: Alfred Rietmann
Hosted by: Suidoosterfees
This two-day workshop offers a practical introduction to stage management, covering the stage manager’s role, the evolution of theatre practice, and key organisational skills such as time management, script analysis, and preparing production documentation. Participants gain hands-on insight into coordinating with creative and technical departments, setting up rehearsal spaces, documenting blocking, and managing early rehearsal processes.
The programme also explores the technical and performance phases, including stage and backstage preparation, lighting and sound plotting, technical and dress rehearsals, scene changes, and calling a show. A backstage tour of the Opera House provides real-world context, and the workshop concludes with post-production procedures, health and safety best practice, participant feedback, and certificate presentation.
