Sibusile Xaba is a charismatic South African guitarist and vocalist who reimagines maskandi, malombo, desert blues, and jazz through his own humanist lens. His vocal style blends dreamlike melodies with ancestral invocation, while his expressive guitar picking draws on influences from masters like Madala Kunene and Dr Philip Tabane, yet remains uniquely his own. Xaba’s music transcends genre, combining mythology, improvisation, and a deeply personal voice.
His debut LP, Open Letter to Adoniah, is the first half of a double album project and serves as a musical letter to his child. Recorded in the Magaliesberg Mountains in 2016 by Mushroom Hour Half Hour, the album channels dreams and reflections on life’s connection to a higher source. Through this work, Xaba establishes an expansive musical vocabulary, fusing traditional South African styles with inventive storytelling and improvisational intensity.
