Dr Roland Moses is a senior lecturer at Tshwane University of Technology, specialising in Performance and Improvisation. He holds a Doctorate in Literature and Philosophy (DLitt et Phil) in Musicology, an MMus (cum laude) in Jazz Performance, Composition, and Arranging, and an MBA in Education Management. He has completed advanced leadership programs in South Africa, Finland, and the Netherlands. Dr Moses serves as Artistic Director for the 2024 YAMAHA Young Soloist Competition, Vice-President of the South African Jazz Educators Association, and official accompanist for UNISA national and international jazz competitions.
An acclaimed performer and composer, Roland has played at major festivals including Joy of Jazz, North Sea Jazz Festival, Macufe, and internationally in Thailand, the Netherlands, and the Seychelles. He has collaborated with artists such as Kevin Davidson, Peter Auret, Leonard Jacome, and Eddy Marcano. His debut album, Paths of Light (2022), received international acclaim, with the track African Sun winning Best Jazz Song at the 7th Mzantsi Jazz Awards and being featured on Apple Music’s Mzansi Jazz playlist. Dr Moses is also deeply committed to music education and community development, running literacy programs at schools such as Nokuphila and conducting workshops across KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
