Louis Mhlanga is a Zimbabwean-born, South Africa-based guitarist celebrated for blending Southern and West African guitar traditions with modern electric guitar techniques. Beginning at age 10, he drew inspiration from rock legends like Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin while incorporating Shona mbira (thumb piano) patterns into his distinctive style.

Mhlanga’s career spans acclaimed solo and collaborative projects. His debut solo album Mukai (2000) established him in the South African market, followed by the SAMA-nominated Tinganekwane (2004). He has collaborated with international stars including George Duke, James Ingram, Al Jarreau, and Habib Koité, and South African icons such as Vusi Mahlasela and Busi Mhlongo. He co-founded the band Musik Ye Afrika with bassist Jimi Indi, producing albums like United We Stand (2003), and leads the Louis Mhlanga Band, featuring top South African jazz musicians.
