Lex Futshane is a renowned South African electric and acoustic bassist, composer, arranger, and educator. A graduate of the University of Natal’s jazz programme under Darius Brubeck, he now lectures at Wits University and is known for co-founding The Bassment, a groundbreaking 12-double-bass ensemble featured on SABC.
His ensemble, the LEXtet, performs his original work and released the album Innocent Victims and Perpetrators. Lex has toured widely across Africa, Europe, the USA, Cuba, and Korea, and has collaborated with leading musicians including McCoy Mrubata, Bheki Mseleku, and Winston “Mankunku” Ngozi. He has also appeared at major festivals such as Joy of Jazz, Arts Alive, the National Arts Festival, and the Bath International Music Festival.
