Lefa Mosea is a saxophonist from the Vaal Triangle (Sebokeng), South of Johannesburg, who discovered his passion for music in Pretoria during his early teens. Starting with guitar and music theory lessons in 2003, he later joined the Vusi Mahlasela Music Development Foundation, where he was introduced to the saxophone—a moment that would define his musical journey. Lefa went on to study Jazz at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in Port Elizabeth, where he co-founded the band Take Note.

With Take Note, Lefa played a pivotal role in composing and arranging the albums Rear Window (2011) and …and the journey begins (2013), performing at national and international festivals, including the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz alongside artists like Wynton Marsalis, Hugh Masekela, and McCoy Tyner. His unique Sesotho influence enriched the band’s sound, and songs he co-composed continue to receive heavy rotation on Kaya FM, Metro FM, Umhlobo Wenene FM, and Radio 2000. In 2015, Lefa embarked on a solo career with Lefa Mosea & The Double Standards Quintet, performing his compositions from Take Note alongside fresh material that continues to captivate audiences.
