Jazz Jam Sessions are formal live music gatherings where musicians come together to improvise jazz standards and original material, often taking turns to play, collaborate, and experiment in a shared, spontaneous performance. The Jam Sessions also provide an important opportunity for live music documentation and research.
Live Jazz Jam sessions include a professional Jazz Trio or quartet who will be prepared to play Jazz Standards and invite guest musicians to the event to play with them. The following venues were identified to manage 20 Jam Sessions each during the period of February to June 2026.
Sundays – The Shed in Muizenberg (Cape Town)
Mondays – Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at UKZN (KwaZulu- Natal)
Tuesdays & Thursdays – Amber on Bree in Foreshores (Cape Town)
Wednesdays – Six in Melville (Johannesburg)
Sundays – Niki’s Jazz Oasis in Newtown (Johannesburg)
