Victor Sithole is a Durban-based multi-instrumentalist, educator, and cultural ambassador known for his mastery of more than 40 African and international traditional instruments. Born in Escourt and introduced to indigenous music by his mother, he later trained at FUBA and studied ethnomusicology at the Australian Institute of Music.
Victor founded Umzizima Arts Explosion and leads the INSILA YEMBELEKO Project, championing the preservation and modern evolution of indigenous African music. His global performance career has taken him to Europe, South America, and Australia, with collaborations spanning artists such as John Ellis, Qadasi, Luke Berling, and DJ Kabila.
A dedicated teacher, he works with UKZN, schools across KZN, and international students through virtual lessons, conducting workshops at nearly 500 schools a year. His new genre, Indi Music, blends traditional sounds with contemporary influences to engage younger audiences.
Victor is a MMIA nominee, a UKZN Mellon Foundation appointee, and the 2024 recipient of the AMAQHAWE AWARD, continuing his mission to elevate indigenous African music on global stages.
